**Culturally Responsive Teaching and What is a Warm Demander?**

Culturally Relevant Pedagogy is a powerful set of teaching tools to help students build capacity as independent learners. Students learn to become independent most effectively when they are held to the highest academic standards by caring, supportive instructors. Judith Kleinfield at the University of Alaska first coined the term "warm demander" to describe this teaching style, which has even portrayed in movies such as Dangerous Minds and Stand and Deliver. Come to this session to learn more about CRP and discuss common characteristics of warm demanders, and a panel of colleagues will share their personal strategies to embody them in their classrooms.
