Because online courses have a lot of moving parts, higher education programs across the nation have developed guidelines and rubrics for developing quality courses.

In 2014, California funded a new project, the Online Education Initiative (OEI). As part of their mission to improve the quality of online courses in the CCCs, the OEI developed a comprehensive course design rubric that draws from nationally recognized standards, such as Quality Matters, the Online Learning Consortium's Five Pillars, and the CSU's QOLT.

The OEI Online Course Design Rubric is divided into four sub-sections:

Content Presentation
Interaction
Assessment
Accessibility

We'll use the Rubric in this workshop to guide our design.
