Course description: Creation of images to communicate ideas. Traditional and digital media. Emphasis on concept development and communication effectiveness. Development of personal visual vocabulary while learning art making techniques and media, reproduction processes and illustration business practice. The course has weekly modules. Each module is 10 points. Each module has activity choices for illustration and digital imaging. Most assignments have options allowing students to personalize their learning experience.
Student Learning Outcomes
A successful student will be able to create illustrations and digital images that visually communicate an idea, message, or story.
A successful student will be able to effectively use painting and drawing tools to visually communicate ideas and information.
Course Objectives
The student will be able to:
- create illustrations that visually communicate an idea, message, or story.
- demonstrate an awareness of basic principles of form and composition.
- effectively use painting and drawing tools to visually communicate ideas and information.
- compare and contrast styles of contemporary electronic illustrators with illustrators using traditional media.
- recognize and appreciate the contributions made in this field by people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- share through class discussions the cultural and personal strengths of their work.

Grades
The assignments and final are graded on a curve.
84 - 100 = A
68 - 83 = B
51 - 62 = C
40 - 50 = D
0 - 39 = F
W = withdrawing or dropping. If you decide to drop this course, you are required to officially withdraw through the Foothill Admissions and Registration Office. You can find out how to do this at https://foothill.edu/reg/registration/add-drop.html
